When a guest clicks a link in an AI answer, they usually arrive with a referrer from the AI tool's domain.

## Domains to look for

- chatgpt.com (and chat.openai.com)
- perplexity.ai
- gemini.google.com
- copilot.microsoft.com
- claude.ai

## In Google Analytics 4

Open Reports, then Acquisition, then Traffic acquisition, and set the dimension to "Session source". Search for the domains above. To track them together, create a custom channel group for "AI assistants" that matches those sources.

## What it won't show

Many AI recommendations never produce a click: the guest reads the name and searches for you later, or books on an OTA. So referral traffic undercounts AI's influence. Track mentions too.
