# Why "best of" lists matter so much for AI recommendations

> AI assistants lean heavily on editorial lists from guides and local press. Why being on them matters and how venues get included.

Ask an AI assistant for "the best restaurants in Bristol" and look at the sources. You'll usually see a few editorial lists: a local paper, a food guide, a magazine.

## Why AI trusts them

They're written by people who visited, they're specific and they name names. They also cover the exact questions people ask.

## How venues get included

- Being genuinely good at something specific.
- Telling local food and travel writers about it: openings, new menus, events.
- Awards and local competitions.
- Being easy to write about: clear facts, good photos, a contact for press.

## Keep it local

National lists help, but for most hotels, restaurants and cafés, the local guides are what AI quotes for local questions.
