# How ChatGPT chooses which restaurants to recommend

> Diners now ask ChatGPT where to eat. How it picks restaurants, what it reads, and why it sometimes gets hours or menus wrong.

In a May 2026 DoorDash survey of 3,001 US consumers, 22% had used an AI tool such as ChatGPT or Gemini to choose a restaurant. The question is which restaurants those tools pick.

## How ChatGPT answers "where should I eat?"

ChatGPT searches the web and reads what it finds: Google listings, review sites, booking platforms, food guides and local press. It then names a few places that match the request, such as cuisine, area, occasion and price, and explains why.

## What makes a restaurant easy to recommend

- **A clear identity.** Cuisine, area and price level stated plainly and consistently.
- **Reviews that mention specifics.** "The best Sunday roast in Islington" in reviews and guides is what lets ChatGPT name you for that question.
- **Coverage in guides.** Local "best of" lists and food guides are sources ChatGPT trusts.
- **Correct, current facts.** Hours, menus and booking links that agree everywhere.

## Why it gets things wrong

ChatGPT repeats what it finds. If an old listing says you close on Mondays, or a third-party site shows last year's menu, ChatGPT may repeat it confidently. The fix starts with finding which source is wrong.

## Check what it says about you

Ask ChatGPT the questions your diners ask: by area, by dish, by occasion. Note who's named and which sites are cited. Our [plans](https://akkrev.com/pricing/) do this for you every week.
