# How to check if ChatGPT can book your UK hotel

You don't need any technical knowledge to find out whether AI agents can book your hotel. You need an AI agent, ten minutes and a notepad.

## Step 1: give the agent a realistic task

Use ChatGPT in agent mode, Gemini in Chrome, Claude or Perplexity Comet. Type something like:

> Book a double room at [hotel name], [town], for two adults for two nights from [date three weeks ahead], on the hotel's own website, not a booking site. Stop before paying. Tell me the room, the total price including VAT and fees, and the cancellation policy.

Choose dates you know are available.

## Step 2: watch what it does

Note:

- **Where it goes first.** Your website, or straight to Booking.com or Expedia?
- **How it finds booking.** Homepage widget, a "Book now" button, a separate booking page?
- **Where it pauses or struggles.** Cookie banner, date picker, pop-up, room choice?
- **How long it takes** to reach a priced room.

## Step 3: check what it reports

Compare its answer with your booking engine:

- Is the room right?
- Is the total right, including VAT and any mandatory charges?
- Is the cancellation policy right?

## Step 4: try a harder request

Real guests ask for more. Try one of these:

- A Saturday-only night (tests minimum stays).
- A room for two adults and a child (tests occupancy rules).
- "With a dog" or "with parking" (tests policies).

## What the results mean

- **It booked direct and got everything right.** Good. Re-test every few months, as agents and sites change.
- **It booked an OTA.** Agents are sending your direct bookings to commission.
- **It gave up.** Agents are sending guests elsewhere.
- **It booked but got the price or policy wrong.** Guests may abandon at payment or complain on arrival.

## Run it more than once

Agents can behave differently on the same site from one run to the next, and your site changes too. Run the test:

- With **two different agents**, for example ChatGPT agent and Gemini in Chrome.
- On **a quiet date and a busy one**, such as a Tuesday in March and a Saturday in August.
- **Again after any change** to your website, booking engine or hosting.

After three or four runs the pattern is usually obvious: the same pop-up, the same widget, the same charge that appears late.

## Don't actually book

Tell the agent to stop before paying. You're testing the route, not making reservations. If you want to test the payment step, choose a refundable rate and cancel straight away.
