# Restaurants with rooms and AI agents (UK)

> Guests come for dinner and stay the night. If the table and room book separately, agents can secure the room but may miss the reason for the trip.

The UK has a strong tradition of restaurants with rooms: a celebrated kitchen with a handful of bedrooms upstairs, so guests can enjoy a long dinner and not drive home. For many guests, the restaurant is the reason to book. AI agents asked to arrange "dinner and a room at [restaurant] on Saturday" need both to work.

## Two systems, one trip

Most restaurants with rooms use:

- A **table booking system** for the restaurant.
- A **room booking engine,** or sometimes none.

They often don't talk to each other. A guest booking online may have to book twice, in two places.

## What agents may do

A guest's agent can:

- Book the room and then the table, if both are online and it notices both are needed.
- Book the room and forget the table, if dinner isn't mentioned in the room booking.
- Book the table and fail on the room, if rooms are by enquiry.

## Dinner, bed and breakfast

The simplest route is a rate that includes dinner, bed and breakfast with a guaranteed table. The agent books one thing, and the kitchen knows to expect the guest. State:

- Whether a table is guaranteed and at what time.
- The menu: tasting menu, set menu or allowance.
- What's not included: drinks, supplements.
- Any minimum stay.

## Room-only guests

Some rooms may be sold only with dinner. If so, say so clearly. Agents searching room-only may otherwise see confusing results.

## Dietary needs

Agents are often asked about dietary needs. If the kitchen handles allergies or vegetarian menus, or doesn't, say so. Agents can then set expectations.

## Why it matters

Restaurant-led guests are high-value and loyal. If an agent can book the room but not secure dinner, the guest may book somewhere else where it can do both.

## Opening days

Many restaurants with rooms close the kitchen one or two nights a week. If rooms are still available on those nights, guests and agents need to know dinner isn't. A clear line, such as "Restaurant closed Sunday and Monday; rooms available with breakfast only", prevents a disappointing booking.

## What this means for AI recommendations

Restaurants with rooms are asked about for food first. AI names places covered by food guides and reviews that also mention the rooms. Make sure both sides of the business are described.

## How to check

Ask an agent: "Book dinner and a room at [your restaurant] for Saturday [a date], on your own website. Make sure the table is confirmed. Stop before paying." If you sell a dinner, bed and breakfast rate that guarantees a table, yes. If the table needs a separate system or a call, the agent can only do part of the job.
