An **AI citation** is a link or reference an AI assistant includes to show where its answer came from. Perplexity always shows them; ChatGPT, Gemini and others often do.

## Why they matter

Citations tell you which sources AI trusts for your area and your type of venue: a guide, a review site, a listing, your own site. They're the map of where to focus.
