# What is AI search?

> AI search means getting answers from AI assistants that search the web and summarise results, instead of a list of links.

_UK and US · Updated 2026-10-27 · Akkrev, https://akkrev.com/glossary/ai-search/_

**AI search** is when an AI assistant searches the web for you and writes an answer, rather than showing a list of links. Examples include ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot.

## What changes

The user sees a few names and a summary. Businesses compete to be among those few names, with the right facts.
