# What is a CAPTCHA, and why does it stop AI agents?

> A CAPTCHA is a challenge, like ticking a box or picking images, that websites use to block bots. On booking pages it also blocks guests' AI agents.

A **CAPTCHA** is a test meant to separate people from bots: ticking "I'm not a robot", picking traffic lights from a grid, or an invisible check that scores how human a visitor seems.

## CAPTCHAs and AI agents

Mainstream AI agents are designed not to solve CAPTCHAs; they stop and hand control back to the user. So a CAPTCHA on a booking page turns an agent booking into "please finish this yourself", and many guests won't.

Invisible checks can be worse: the agent may simply see an error or an endless loading screen, with no explanation.

## Where hotels get them from

Often not from a deliberate choice. Booking engines, hosting providers and [bot management](https://akkrev.com/glossary/bot-management/) services add them to stop scraping and fake bookings. The question is whether they're applied to every visitor or only to suspicious ones.

## Why it matters for AI visibility

CAPTCHAs on booking pages stop agents; site-wide challenges can stop AI crawlers too, reducing what AI knows about you.
