# What is a minimum length of stay (MLOS)?

> A minimum length of stay is a rule that a booking must cover at least a set number of nights. It's a common reason AI agents report hotels as unavailable.

A **minimum length of stay (MLOS)** is a restriction that a booking must be for at least a certain number of nights, for example two nights at weekends, three on bank or public holidays, or seven in peak summer weeks. Hotels, B&Bs and rentals use it to avoid single nights that leave gaps.

## Why it matters for AI agents

How a booking engine shows MLOS decides whether an agent understands it:

- **A message**, such as "two-night minimum on Saturdays", gives the agent something to tell the guest, and it may offer the longer stay.
- **Greyed-out dates** with no explanation look the same as a sold-out night. The agent reports "no availability" and moves on.

Because minimum stays are tightest on the busiest dates, they affect exactly the bookings guests most often hand to agents.
