**WebMCP** is a proposed standard for letting websites describe their own actions to AI agents running in the browser. Rather than an agent guessing which button to press, the site can declare tools such as "search availability" or "submit enquiry", with the inputs they need, and the agent calls them directly.

## Status

WebMCP is still a community draft. Chrome started an experimental origin trial in Chrome 149, and Google has said Gemini in Chrome will support WebMCP APIs. That means only some browsers and agents can use it today, and sites need to opt in.

## How it relates to MCP

The [Model Context Protocol](https://akkrev.com/glossary/model-context-protocol/) connects AI assistants to tools on servers. WebMCP brings a similar idea to ordinary web pages, so the tools live in the page the guest is already on.

## Why hotels should watch it

For hotels, a booking flow that announces itself as a tool could make agent bookings faster and more reliable. Until support is widespread, agents will mostly keep operating hotel websites the way people do, which is why the basics of an agent-friendly [booking engine](https://akkrev.com/glossary/booking-engine/) still matter most.

## Why it matters for AI visibility

WebMCP lets a site expose actions to agents in the browser. It's an emerging standard; for now, clear content drives most recommendations.
