Why AI recommendations change from day to day
Updated By Akkrev
Ask ChatGPT the same question twice and you may get different hotels or restaurants. Why that happens and how to measure AI visibility anyway.
Ask the same AI assistant the same question on two days and you’ll often get different names. That’s normal.
Why answers vary
- Randomness by design. Assistants don’t always pick the same words or the same examples.
- Different search results. Live searches return slightly different pages.
- Model updates. Assistants change often, sometimes weekly.
- Context. Location, language and previous messages shift the answer.
What it means for you
A single check tells you little. A good result can be luck; a bad one can be noise. What matters is how often you’re named across many questions and many days.
How to measure
Use a fixed question set, ask several assistants, and track the share of answers that name you each week. That’s how our plans report.
