How Perplexity recommends venues and cites sources
Updated By Akkrev
Perplexity cites every source it uses. That makes it the easiest AI assistant to learn from: here's how to read its answers about your venue.
Perplexity searches the web for every question and lists the pages it used. For hospitality businesses that’s useful: it shows you exactly which sites shape what AI says about you.
How it works
Perplexity runs a live search, reads the top results and writes an answer with numbered citations. For “best boutique hotels in Bath” it might cite a newspaper guide, TripAdvisor, a booking site and a couple of hotel websites.
What to learn from its citations
- If your own site is never cited, AI isn’t treating it as a source. Your listings speak for you.
- If one guide keeps appearing, being covered by that guide matters for your area.
- If a competitor’s site is cited, look at what that page says that yours doesn’t.
Why it matters beyond Perplexity
Other assistants use similar sources but show them less clearly. Perplexity’s citations are a good proxy for what the web says about you overall.
Our plans report the sites the assistants quote when they answer questions about your area.
