Why does AI recommend my competitors and not me?
Updated By Akkrev
The common reasons AI assistants name other hotels, restaurants or cafés instead of yours, and how to find out which one applies to you.
It’s the most common question we hear. The answer is almost always one of these.
1. They’re described for the question; you’re not
If a guest asks for “dog-friendly”, AI names places whose pages and reviews say dog-friendly. If yours doesn’t say it, you’re not in the answer, even if you welcome dogs.
2. More sources mention them
A competitor in two local guides, with lots of recent reviews, is a safer recommendation than a place mentioned only on its own site.
3. AI can’t read your site
Booking widgets, images of menus, blocked crawlers or heavy scripts can leave AI with little to go on.
4. Your facts disagree
Different names, addresses or hours across your site and listings make AI less confident about who you are.
5. Old information
A closure notice from years ago, a former name, last season’s hours.
