What is the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol?
Updated By Akkrev
Agent2Agent (A2A) is an open protocol that lets AI agents from different companies discover each other and work together, using an agent card.
The Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol is an open standard for AI agents to talk to other AI agents. Each agent can publish an “agent card” describing what it does and how to reach it, so a guest’s personal agent could, in principle, hand a task to a hotel’s own booking agent rather than clicking through a website.
A2A reached version 1.0 in April 2026 and is supported on several major cloud platforms.
A2A and MCP
The Model Context Protocol connects an agent to tools and data. A2A connects an agent to another agent. In travel, MCP might give an agent live hotel availability, while A2A would let it negotiate with a hotel’s concierge agent.
Does a small hotel need it?
Not today. Hotel-to-agent conversations over A2A are still rare. For independent hotels, the practical priority is that guest agents can complete a booking on the hotel’s own website, which works with any agent.
Why it matters for AI visibility
A2A is about agents talking to agents. Your visibility to the assistant that starts the conversation still comes first.
