What is hotel metasearch?
Updated By Akkrev
Hotel metasearch sites like Google Hotels, Trivago and Kayak compare prices from hotels and OTAs and send guests to book. AI agents often start from them.
Metasearch sites compare a hotel’s prices across several sellers, usually the hotel’s own website and OTAs, and send the guest to book with the seller they choose. The best known are Google Hotels, Trivago, Kayak and Tripadvisor. Hotels typically pay per click or per booking to appear with their direct price.
Metasearch and AI agents
Metasearch is a natural starting point for agents: it already lists many sellers and prices in one place. An agent may use Google’s hotel results to find options and then click through to book. Where it clicks depends on what’s listed and on which site it expects to complete the booking.
Google also offers free booking links that let hotels show their direct price without paying per click. See free booking links.
Why it matters
If a hotel’s direct price appears on metasearch and the hotel’s booking page works for agents, metasearch can lead an agent straight to a direct booking. If not, the OTA listing next to it is one click away.
Why it matters for AI visibility
Metasearch listings are one of the sources AI uses to compare hotel prices. Accurate rates there feed accurate AI answers.
