Google AI Mode: what hotels and restaurants should know
Updated By Akkrev
A practical AI Mode check for hotels and restaurants: test guest questions, inspect facts and sources, then review Google's generative AI impressions.
AI Mode is Google’s conversational search. Guests can ask follow-up questions, such as “and which of those have parking?”, and get a new shortlist each time.
What makes it different
A guest can add requirements such as parking, breakfast or vegan options as the conversation continues. The answer may change, including which venues are named. Missing information is one possible cause, but a changed shortlist does not prove why a venue was omitted.
What it reads
Inspect the links in the actual answer instead of assuming a fixed source mix. Keep the venue’s website and managed Google profile current. Published facts help guests check the answer, whether the source is your own site or a third party.
What to check
- Ask an unbranded question a guest might ask, with a town and a practical need.
- Save the answer and cited links. Check whether the venue is named and the details are correct.
- Add one follow-up requirement and save that answer too. Treat this as an observation, not a diagnosis of Google’s ranking system.
- Check the relevant room or menu page. Improve a missing fact using information the venue can verify.
- Repeat under comparable conditions and review search performance separately.
Google’s Generative AI features report shows impressions from AI Mode and AI Overviews by page and other supported dimensions. Those impressions are already included in overall Search performance; they are not additional visits. Our measurement guide explains how to keep that evidence separate from sampled model scores and bookings.
