How to measure whether AI SEO is working for your venue
Updated By Akkrev
Measure Google AI impressions, organic clicks, sampled AI recommendations and bookings separately. A practical reporting method for hospitality owners.
Measure discovery, visits and bookings as separate outcomes. A venue can appear in an AI answer without receiving a click, and a visit does not establish a booking. Keep Google’s observations, third-party model samples and your own booking data in separate columns.
1. Google search and generative AI visibility
In Search Console, inspect the Search results report for clicks, impressions, click-through rate and position. Break it down by landing page, country and relevant owner queries. A high position on a query shown once is weak evidence of sustained demand.
Google also provides a Generative AI features report for impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode. Inspect its pages, countries and dates using the same period. These impressions are included in overall Search performance: do not add the two reports together as separate audiences. The dedicated impression count does not establish a visit, a booking or coverage on ChatGPT.
2. Sampled recommendations and factual accuracy
Keep a fixed set of unbranded guest questions. Save the model or consumer app, date, retrieval method, answer and citations. Record whether the venue is recommended, who else is named, which URLs are linked and which facts need checking.
Call a score “recommendation rate in the sampled answers” when that is what it measures. It is not automatically market share or a measure of all users’ answers. Changed questions, models or search settings need a new comparison baseline. Akkrev’s methodology explains its weekly API samples.
3. Visits, enquiries and bookings
Use analytics to inspect identifiable AI referral visits and the actions those visitors take. Follow enquiries and confirmed bookings in your reservation system. Referrers can be missing; an optional “How did you find us?” question provides another imperfect signal.
Do not multiply impressions by average booking value and call the result revenue. Count observed bookings and their actual value, then state the limits of attribution.
A practical monthly review
Compare equal periods, note seasonal changes and keep a log of website edits. Review UK and US performance separately if those are your markets. Prioritise pages that reach relevant guests or venue owners, rather than maximising a global impression total. Use the same guest-question checks when you repeat the measurement.
