After a rebrand or new ownership, AI assistants can keep using the old name or old facts for months. Why, and where to update.
AI assistants learn from the web, and the web remembers. After a name change, old articles, reviews and listings keep the old name alive.
Typical problems
- AI recommends you under your old name.
- AI says the old business closed, so you must be closed.
- Reviews of the previous owner are attributed to you.
What helps
- Update every listing you control, with the same new name.
- Say plainly on your site: “formerly known as…”.
- Ask guides and press that covered you to update their pages.
- Keep checking what AI says for a few months.
