Can Microsoft Copilot book a hotel? What US hotels should know
USUpdated By Akkrev
Microsoft announced Copilot Actions in April 2025, naming hotels among tasks and Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor among launch partners.
Microsoft Copilot is built into Windows, Edge and Microsoft 365, which puts it in front of a very large number of US workers and households. In April 2025, Microsoft announced Copilot Actions, a feature that lets Copilot carry out tasks on the web for a user. Booking hotels was on the list.
What Microsoft announced
According to reporting from the launch:
- Copilot Actions can complete tasks such as booking event tickets, restaurant reservations, flights and hotels, and buying gifts.
- Launch partners included Booking.com, Expedia, Tripadvisor, Kayak, Priceline, Skyscanner, Viator, Vrbo, OpenTable and 1-800-Flowers.com.
- Microsoft said Actions would work with most websites, not just partners.
- Copilot asks for the user’s confirmation before booking or buying.

What that means for an independent hotel
The partner list is familiar: big OTAs and metasearch sites. That’s the easiest path for an assistant, because those sites are well understood and already work closely with Microsoft. When a guest asks Copilot to book a hotel, the simplest route may lead through one of them.
Microsoft also said Actions would work on most websites. That’s where independents come in. If a guest asks Copilot to book a specific inn on its own website, Copilot has to navigate that site like any other agentic browser. Whether it succeeds depends on things the hotel controls:
- Can it find the booking link from the homepage? See can an AI agent find the booking button?
- Can it set the dates? See why date pickers trip up agents.
- Can it read prices, taxes and fees as text?
- Does anything block it along the way?
Business travel is the interesting part
Copilot is strongly tied to work: Outlook calendars, Teams meetings, company accounts. An assistant that knows a user has a meeting in Boston on Tuesday is in a good position to suggest and book a hotel. If your inn or boutique hotel serves business travelers, Copilot is worth testing specifically.
Corporate travel policies may still route bookings through approved tools. See corporate negotiated rates and AI agents.
Taxes and fees in the total
US hotel prices often add taxes and fees late in the booking. Copilot should report the full total before the guest confirms. If your booking engine shows the total clearly, as text, an assistant can quote it accurately. If it doesn’t, the guest may see a different number at the end, which undermines trust in both the assistant and the hotel.
What this means for AI recommendations
Copilot draws on Bing’s index. Hotels that are well indexed in Bing, with accurate listings, have a better chance of appearing in Copilot’s answers.
How to check
Open Copilot and ask: “Book a room at [your hotel] for one night on [a date next month] on the hotel’s own website. Stop before paying and tell me the total including taxes and fees.” Watch whether it uses your site or goes to an OTA, and where it gets stuck. Our free agent check can include more than one assistant.
