What is Google-Agent?
Updated By Akkrev
Google-Agent is the user agent Google uses when an AI agent on its infrastructure visits a site to complete a user's task, like checking a booking page.
Google-Agent is a user agent Google added to its list of user-triggered fetchers in March 2026. It appears in server logs when an AI agent running on Google’s infrastructure, such as Project Mariner, visits a site to do something a person asked: browse pages, check details, or submit a form.
How it differs from Googlebot
Googlebot crawls the web in the background to build Google’s index. Google-Agent visits because a specific user asked for a task right now. Google’s John Mueller has said a basic of the agent era is “not blindly blocking agentic browsers”.
What hotels should check
- Whether security settings or a firewall block Google’s published IP ranges for agents.
- Whether booking forms and multi-step flows work for automated visitors.
- Server logs for Google-Agent visits, to see whether agents are already trying.

Why it matters for AI visibility
Google’s agents work from Google’s data. A complete Business Profile and accurate facts are the base for being chosen.
