What is a rate plan?
Updated By Akkrev
A rate plan is a set of prices and conditions for a room, such as 'flexible, breakfast included' or 'non-refundable'. Agents need clear ones to book well.
A rate plan is a named combination of price and conditions that a hotel sells a room under. One room type can have several: a flexible rate, a cheaper non-refundable rate, bed and breakfast, a package with dinner, a member rate, a long-stay rate.
Why rate plans matter to AI agents
Guests give agents conditions: “refundable”, “with breakfast”, “cheapest”. The agent has to match those against the hotel’s rate plans. That works when each plan says plainly what it includes and its cancellation terms. It goes wrong when plans have marketing names (“Escape”, “Classic”, “Saver”) and the conditions sit behind a pop-up.
Common problems
- Breakfast or cancellation terms only in a rate details link.
- Packages sold on a separate page from normal rates.
- Member or app-only rates the agent can’t see.
- Too many similar plans, making the cheapest suitable option hard to identify.

Why it matters for AI visibility
Clearly named rate plans help AI answer questions like “hotel with breakfast included” or “free cancellation”.
