Your Google Business Profile and AI agents (UK hotels)
UKUpdated By Akkrev
AI assistants often lean on Google listings for hotel facts. Wrong hours, an old booking link or an OTA as the main link can steer agents away.
Many guests now ask Google’s AI features, or an assistant that searches the web, about hotels. Those answers often draw on the same business information that powers Google Maps and your Google Business Profile. If that information is wrong, agents may repeat the mistake, or steer the booking somewhere else.
What agents may pick up from your listing
- Your name, address and category. Used to identify you as one specific hotel, your entity.
- Website link. Where an agent may go to book.
- Phone number and opening hours. Reception hours can be misread as check-in times.
- Prices. Hotel listings on Google often show prices from booking partners.
- Amenities. Pool, parking, pets, Wi-Fi, accessibility.
- Reviews and photos.
Google uses this information across Search and Maps, including in AI Mode. Other agents that search the web may see it too.
Common problems on hotel profiles
Website link to an online travel agency. Sometimes a profile’s link points to a listing on another site, or to an old booking engine. An agent following that link books there.
Old booking engine link. After a change of engine, the profile still points to the old one, which may not work.
No direct rate on Google. If your own site isn’t among the booking options, the agent sees only OTA prices. Google’s free booking links let hotels show their direct rate alongside others, usually connected through a booking engine or channel manager.
Wrong amenities. “Pets allowed” ticked when only some rooms allow dogs. An agent may book the wrong room.
Closed or seasonal status. A seasonal hotel marked open all year, or the reverse. See seasonal closures and AI agents.
Your profile and your website should agree
Agents check more than one source. If your profile says one thing and your website another, the agent has to choose. Consistent facts across your profile, website and OTA listings make you easier to trust.
Google’s agentic booking test
In the US, Google is testing agentic hotel booking in AI Mode with a small group of partners. Independent hotels weren’t named. Read more in Google AI Mode’s agentic hotel booking test. Whatever happens next, your listing is likely to be one of the places Google’s systems look.
What this means for AI recommendations
Your Google Business Profile is one of the main sources Gemini and Google’s AI answers use. Complete categories, hours, attributes and photos directly affect whether you’re recommended.
How to check
Search for your hotel on Google Maps. Check the website link, phone, hours and amenities. Look at the prices shown and whether your own website appears. Then ask Gemini or Google’s AI Mode: “What’s the best way to book [your hotel] directly?” See where it sends you. Our free agent check can include where agents are sent.
Questions
Do AI agents use Google Business Profiles?
Google's own assistants draw on Google's business data, and other agents may see the same facts through search results and maps. How much each relies on it varies and isn't fully published.
What is the most important field for bookings?
The website link, and for hotels, whether your own site appears among the booking options. If the main link goes to an online travel agency, agents may follow it.
Should a hotel take part in Google's free booking links?
Many independents do, through their booking engine or channel manager. It lets your direct rate appear next to OTA prices on Google.
How often should a profile be checked?
At least every few months, and after any change of website, booking engine or contact details. Others can suggest edits to your profile.
