Google free booking links for US independent hotels and agents
USUpdated By Akkrev
Free booking links let hotels show direct rates on Google next to OTAs. As Google tests agentic booking, how you appear on Google matters more.
When a traveler searches for a hotel on Google, they often see a list of prices from different sites. Google’s free booking links let hotels appear in that list with their own direct rate, alongside OTAs, without paying for ads. Many US independents already use them through their booking engine or channel manager.
As Google tests agentic hotel booking in AI Mode, those listings may matter even more.
How free booking links work
- Hotels share rates and availability with Google, usually through a connectivity partner such as their booking engine or channel manager.
- Google shows those rates in hotel search results and on Maps.
- Travelers click through to the hotel’s own booking engine.
Google’s help page explains the details and eligibility.
Why it matters for agents
AI agents that use Google, including Google’s own assistants, see the same prices people see. If your direct rate is in that list, an agent comparing prices sees it. If it isn’t, the agent sees only OTA prices for your hotel and may book through one of them.
Google’s agentic booking test
In August 2026, Google confirmed a limited US test of agentic hotel booking. The partners named were large OTAs and chains. No independents were named, and Google hasn’t said how independents will join. See Google’s agentic hotel booking test.
We don’t know whether free booking links will connect to that. But hotels that already share accurate rates with Google are likely to be in a better position than those that don’t.
What can go wrong
Not taking part. Your engine supports free booking links, but they’re not switched on.
Price mismatches. The price on Google doesn’t match your site, because of taxes, fees or currency. Google may limit listings that don’t match.
Landing page issues. The link lands on your homepage, not the booking engine with dates set. See deep link.
Fees missing. US rules require mandatory fees in the total for short-term lodging. See the FTC junk fee rule.
Your profile matters too
Free booking links sit alongside your Google Business Profile. Accurate details there matter as well. See Google Business Profile and AI agents, written for UK hotels with the same checks.
Questions for your provider
- Do you support Google free booking links, and are they switched on for us?
- Does the link land on our engine with dates and guests set?
- Do prices on Google include all mandatory fees?
What this means for AI recommendations
Free booking links put your own rate next to OTA rates in Google. They also feed Google’s understanding of your prices, which its AI answers can draw on.
How to check
Search Google for your hotel with dates. Look at the prices list: is your own site there, with the same price as your engine? Click through and check where you land. Then ask Google’s AI Mode to book a room at your hotel and see where it sends you. Our free agent check can include this.
