Should hotels wait for their booking engine to add AI agent support?
Updated By Akkrev
Some booking platforms are adding AI agent integrations, like Cloudbeds with Meta's Muse. What those cover, what they don't, and why testing now matters.
Hotel technology companies are racing to connect to AI. It’s tempting for a hotel to wait until its own vendor “adds AI” and let that solve the problem. Here’s what vendor integrations cover today and what they leave to the hotel.
What’s being built
- Meta’s Muse and Cloudbeds. Cloudbeds announced in October 2026 that Muse will show participating Cloudbeds hotels’ live rates and send guests to the hotel’s own Cloudbeds booking engine, with US rollout planned for early 2027.
- Google’s AI Mode. In August 2026 Google confirmed a limited US test of agentic hotel booking, working with Booking, Expedia, Marriott, Wyndham and IHG, with Amadeus as an early infrastructure partner. Independent hotels weren’t among the named partners.
- OTA connections. Booking.com offers an MCP server to approved partners for accommodation search; Expedia and Booking.com have apps in ChatGPT.
- Distribution feeds. Companies such as DirectBooker connect hotels’ live rates to ChatGPT and Claude through partners including SiteMinder and eviivo.
What those integrations don’t cover
- Other agents. Each integration covers specific platforms. Guests use many agents, and new ones keep arriving.
- Browsing agents. Agents such as ChatGPT agent, Gemini in Chrome and Claude often use your website directly, finding the booking link, setting dates and reading prices. That depends on your site as much as your engine.
- Your facts. Integrations pass rates and availability. Your website still tells agents about parking, pets, policies and rooms.
- Your settings. Blocked AI crawlers, bot protection and cookie walls are set on your site, not by your engine vendor.
The cost of waiting
Agents remember what worked. If they learn to book your hotel through an OTA because your own site didn’t work for them, that habit may stick after your vendor adds an integration.
What to do now
Ask your vendor what AI integrations they offer and when. In the meantime, test whether a browsing agent can book your own site today. Our free agent check does that.
Where AI visibility fits
Whatever your booking engine adds, it won’t make AI recommend you. Recommendations depend on what AI reads about you across the web, which you can work on now.
Questions
Is Google testing AI hotel booking?
Yes. Google confirmed a limited US test of agentic hotel booking in Search AI Mode in August 2026, with partners including Booking, Expedia, Marriott, Wyndham and IHG. Independent hotels weren't among the named partners.
Will my booking engine vendor make my hotel agent-ready?
Vendors can add connections to specific AI platforms. Agents that browse websites will still use your homepage and booking path, which depend on your own site as well as the engine.
