What is generative engine optimisation (GEO)?
Updated By Akkrev
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is work to get a brand mentioned and cited in AI answers from tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the practice of improving how often, and how accurately, a business appears in answers from generative AI: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode. It overlaps with answer engine optimisation.
Typical GEO work includes tracking which prompts mention you, improving content AI can quote, structured data, crawler access and earning mentions on sites AI trusts.
GEO versus agent bookings
GEO gets a hotel named. It doesn’t ensure an agent can book it. For hotels, the commercial outcome is the booking, so the question after “does ChatGPT mention us?” is “can ChatGPT agent actually book us on our own site?”. That second question is what an AI booking audit tests.
Why it matters for AI visibility
For hospitality, GEO means being named when guests ask AI where to stay, eat or drink. Akkrev’s plans track and improve exactly that.
