What is AI SEO for hotels, restaurants and cafés?
Updated By Akkrev
AI SEO for hospitality means improving how guests find and understand your venue in AI answers. Learn what to fix, how to measure it and where to start.
AI SEO is the work of getting your business named when someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation. For hospitality, that means questions like “where should we stay in York for the races?”, “best brunch in Hackney?” or “a quiet hotel near Union Square”.
The result can be a shortlist with explanations and source links rather than a conventional list of pages. Google also provides generated answers through AI Overviews and AI Mode. Each app and question can produce a different result; there is no universal fixed number of recommended venues.
What AI looks at
AI assistants build their answers from what they can read across the web:
- Your Google Business Profile: category, hours, attributes, photos and reviews.
- Review sites: Google, TripAdvisor, Yelp.
- Booking and reservation platforms: Booking.com, Expedia, OpenTable, Resy.
- Guides and press: “best of” lists, local papers, food and travel guides.
- Forums: Reddit and local communities.
- Your own website, if they can read it.
What AI SEO work involves
- Measure. Ask the assistants the questions your guests ask, every week, and record who they name and which sites they quote.
- Fix the facts. Make sure your hours, prices, location and policies are correct and consistent everywhere AI looks.
- Fill the gaps. Publish clear answers to the questions guests ask, and get covered by the sources AI trusts.
- Track. Repeat comparable samples and inspect real visits and enquiries separately. A changed model answer alone does not prove an improvement in bookings.
Where to start
Use a hotel checklist or restaurant checklist and save a small set of unbranded guest-question answers. Check crawler access before assuming a new article will solve the problem. See SEO, AEO and GEO compared for the terminology and the measurement guide for what to record.
Akkrev is software for independent hospitality owners who want that weekly evidence. Current plans include four sampled API model families, original answers, competitors, sources and suggested next steps. Grow and Scale add article drafts and supported publishing. The methodology explains how API samples differ from consumer apps and Google’s own AI reporting. Hotel booking audits are a separate service.
Questions
Is AI SEO the same as GEO?
The terms overlap. GEO focuses on visibility in generated answers; AEO focuses on information being used as an answer. AI SEO is a broader term. The fundamentals still include useful pages, accurate facts and evidence of what was measured.
Does AI SEO replace Google SEO?
No. Good SEO remains relevant to AI search. Keep pages useful and accessible, and use search reporting alongside saved AI samples. Listings and reviews already matter to local SEO too.
